Three of Us

There is a moment in ‘Three of Us’ when Shailaja played by Shefali Shah brings her childhood self out for a while in her old Bharatnatyam school. She realises that even though she can remember that specific dance performance for most parts, she forgets at a point. She recedes behind a pillar with teary eyes, showcasing both the ecstasy of remembering the dance routine from her old self to grasping the harsh reality that it might be the last time she remembers the dance sequence!

‘Three of Us’ by Avinash Arun is a poignant tale of reminiscing memories, both good and bad, that we hold at the far bottom corner of our hearts, which no one else has access to. It is the story of a person who wants just a few people in this large world to remember her in ways she would remember them. Because her memories are drowning, with little to no hopes of resurfacing.

And what better way to preserve those memories than to remind those memories to people who helped create those memories in the first place?

In that ferris wheel scene, she says she doesn’t remember what happened the last time she visited the same fair. She remembers just one thing. That Pradeep would definitely remember that. What she wants to do is, just help him bring that memory from the abyss to the surface that can be watered and taken care of, for the rest of his life.

‘Three of Us’ is like a warm hug that I needed to begin this year with. Do catch it on Netflix. It has that Konkan coastal town embrace with its all beautiful idleness, greenery, and that damp feel, with Shefali Shah, Jaideep Ahlawat, Swanand Kirkire, and Kadambari Kadam in their beautiful elements, making Three of Us, an intimate affair to each viewer.

And Jaideep Ahlawat, what you said about Dipankar played by Swanand Kirkire is what I want to say about you.

Sir ki smile bahut acchi hai!💜
