Let’s Premalu

Premalu is the modern romance we wanted to see onscreen for a long time in recent memory.

It never gets too serious or too flashy and handles all with a current-gen finesse that is reflected in the characters of Sachin, Reenu, Amal, and even Aadhi to an extent.

Set in Hyderabad (which made me along with countless new others fall in love with the city though), Premalu deals with the romantic ordeals of Sachin in the days following his graduation which leads his destiny to Reenu, the girl with a much settled life plans. The trope is set. We know the ending as usual.

But Premalu doesn’t let you take your eyes off the screen for even a second. It engages us with humour at every touch point making us witness the world of Sachin, Reenu, and co. in close quarters. The unanimous theatre response of the ‘Ya Ya Ya Yadava’ sequence tells us reasons why we as a community love going to movies. It’s so much harmless fun that helps us make lifelong memories.

Naslen as Sachin and Mamitha Baiju as Reenu had a cakewalk of a chemistry. It felt so joyous and heartwarming to see them both fall in love, deal with the reality of it, experience heartbreak, and then again muster the courage to take the big step. It reflected modern relationships like Girish AD placed a mirror in front of the day-to-day folks in cities like Hyderabad and gave a pat on their shoulders that falling in love is one of the best things to do, if not the best.

Vishnu Vijay deserves a big hug for bringing the jam vibes aiding the teen romance like a fish in water. And finally, Amal Davis eh (Sangeeth Prathap), I would also hate a guy nonetheless if he or she says Yuvan songs are boring. More than y’all, I am Yuvan’s birthday twin and I would take it a whole lot personally.

tl;dr – Premalu is a cracker. Not the type that ruptures your eardrums with a loud blast, rather it gives us the sparkles that contain all the fun in it, radiating brightness and happiness.
