Dune, by Frank Herbert, is my first-ever attempt at reading a sci-fi novel. And I am so glad the universe conspired to make this my first of many. Because Dune might be one of the best reads of my life.
Be it the plethora of characters that inhabit the world of Dune, the way that Frank Herbert pulls us into his Dune universe, or the way the novel deals with ecology, politics, religion, mysticism, philosophy, history, and even poetry to an extent, Dune is a gift that never stops giving and I am so glad I got introduced to this sci-fi epic by Denis Villeneuve.
And since I had already watched the first two trailers of the movie before starting the book, I was easily able to picture the characters from the book. The first time Paul made an appearance in the book, Timothée said ‘Hi’ from my brain cells. And it was almost the same scenario for every important character like Chani, Leto, Gurney, Duncan, and Stilgar. Some characters I didn’t know who was playing them, so I was blind in that aspect.
But the most interesting of all was the character of Lady Jessica. I had not watched many Rebecca Ferguson performances but her face from the Dune trailer was kinda only half memorable for me which exactly suited the character she plays, the mysterious Bene Gesserit, Lady Jessica. It’s quite an experience folks, I say.
In the end, I am not a prolific reader to review Dune, the book. But all I can say is, that Dune kinda helped me overcome my beginner’s struggle with reading novels, whether they be sci-fi or fantasy or a mixed genre. Now I strongly believe that I will be able to read more and more such good books, especially novels.
📖 The mystery of life isn’t a problem to solve but a reality to experience.
