If you had responded ‘General Kenobi‘ to my greeting, we are friends already. If not, no problem then too. We can become friends with the help of my explanation regarding why ‘General Kenobi‘ was the response I expected. With no further ado, I come straight to my point. We can become friends by talking over CINEMA. Yes, that’s what zigarthanda is for. To talk, walk and breathe CINEMA.
The humble beginnings of zigarthanda date back to one fine afternoon in October 2018 when I just started zigarthanda to share my love for cinema with a wider world. Why the name zigarthanda you ask? I wanted a name that sounded like a pun on famous movies or TV series. I tried shawshank society, band of birdmen and a few others like that. But nah, there was something amiss.
I felt a single word would be good since I was not okay with names that contained dots and dashes in them. I also re-watched ‘Jigarthanda’ (2014) by Karthick Subbaraj a few days back. Why not ‘JIGARTHANDA’, I asked myself. Since Jigarthanda with a ‘J’ was not available I simply metamorphosed ‘J’ to ‘Z’ resulting in the birth of ‘ZIGARTHANDA’. Double happy at the end since I chose a name that was derived from a movie and a dish, both of them extremely popular where I belong rather than some Hollywood or Bollywood movie.
Hope you guys enjoyed talking, walking and breathing cinema with me. There are occasional blips where I turn my thoughts onto books or cricket, the loyal aids to my love for cinema. Those are just glitches in the matrix called zigarthanda and hope you enjoy those glitches too with the same gladness.
