At the end of ‘Before Sunrise‘ (1995), after Jesse and Celine go their separate ways, we get a montage of all the places they had visited that night. Those places are empty now without Jesse and Celine’s presence. Emptiness is profound. Just like both their hearts after the best night of their lives.
9 YEARS LATER.
In ‘Before Sunset‘ (2004) we get such a montage right at the beginning of the movie itself. Those places were empty without Jesse and Celine’s presence. Once the movie reaches its climax, we see Jesse and Celine trace that path right from the place where the montage ends to the place where it began. The path is fulfilled such as their hearts. Fulfillment is profound here. Just like their lives now.
